Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the Chicago Pathology Society (CPS) for the 2026–2027 academic year. As we begin another exciting year of educational programming, I would like to welcome both our longstanding members and those who are joining us for the first time.
My own journey with CPS began many years ago as a pathology resident presenting cases at an Illinois Registry of Pathology (IRAP) session. Those early experiences introduced me not only to the educational excellence of the Society but also to the collegiality and mentorship that make CPS such a special organization.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to become more involved, serve on the Board of Directors, and now assume the role of President. It has been incredibly rewarding to witness and contribute to the sustained growth and success of CPS throughout this time.
Educational Programming for the Year Ahead
The upcoming year features another outstanding schedule of educational offerings, including subspecialty updates across:
- Blood Bank
- Molecular Pathology
- Hematopathology
- Clinical Chemistry
We will continue our highly successful IRAP program, which remains one of the signature educational activities of CPS. I am especially pleased that institutions throughout Illinois continue to participate enthusiastically and that the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin–Madison remain integral partners in our IRAP rotation.
The addition of these Wisconsin programs over the past several years has strengthened the educational experience for all participants and further expanded the regional collaboration that makes CPS unique.
Mary and Donald West King/ISP Lecture & Annual Slide Seminar
One of the highlights of the CPS calendar is the annual Mary and Donald West King/ISP Lecture and Annual Slide Seminar. Last year's event was an exceptional success, attracting excellent attendance and generating lively discussion among practicing pathologists, trainees, and educators.
We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2027 with our distinguished guest speaker:

The Importance of CPS Membership
As we begin the new academic year, I would also like to emphasize the importance of CPS membership. The strength of our Society depends on the active participation and support of our members.
Membership dues directly help CPS maintain and expand the high-quality educational programming that has defined our organization for decades. In addition, CME credit for CPS educational activities may only be claimed by CPS members, making membership an invaluable benefit for those who regularly participate in our programs.
If you have not yet renewed your membership, I encourage you to do so today. Please also encourage your colleagues and trainees to join CPS.
Membership is free for trainees and emeritus members.
This makes it easy for the next generation of pathologists and retired pathologists to remain engaged with our community.
